BUDGET EXPLANATION
Airfare, $2,000.00 each: This estimate is based on the cheapest current rate for roundtrip airfare from Denver, CO to Kigali, Rwanda during the summer months.
Travel Insurance: $0.00: Travel insurance will be included in DU Health Insurance purchased prior to trip.
$180.00: Meghan will purchase travel insurance through TravelGuard who have provided and estimate of $180.
Lodging, $0.00: Umuryango is gracious to house us during our stay.
Food, $264.00: Umuryango will provide us with meals during our stay. For this we will pay them $10.00 a week per person. The daily diet at Umuryango will be high in carbohydrates but low in fruits, vegetables or protein. The food allowance is designated for dining at restaurants and the purchase of additional food necessary for supplementing the diet.
Transportation Within Rwanda, $180.00: This estimate is based on several elements: Taxi fare between the airport and the village of Byimana where Umuryango is located ($70.00 each way), two trips to the nearest town via bus a week at $1.04 roundtrip per person, and four bus trips to Kigali, the capital, at $5.00 roundtrip.
Email $36.00: Email is necessary for communicating with advisors for proper supervision. This estimate is based on the Internet rate of $3.00 an hour.
Research/Counseling materials $75.00: Miscellaneous funds will be used for as needed purchases possibly including trauma counseling and art therapy works. In unused funds will go towards the project developing cards and thank you notes to sell and generate income for the counseling program.
Translator, $600.00: A translator will be needed in working with the kids at the level necessary for psychosocial assessment. The cost of a translator is estimated at $100.00 per week and $400.00 per month.
Fundraising: $2,250.00: We have currently raised $2,250 in savings, donations and a grant. We are hoping to obtain additional funding through personal donations.
