UMURYANGO CHILDREN’S NETWORK

UMURYANGO:
Umuryango Children’s Network is a non-profit organization based in Rwanda that serves as a home for former street children. It is located in Byimana, Rwanda, a small town about twenty minutes from Gitarama and an hour and a half by bus to the capital, Kigali.
The organization was started and continues to be run by a Rwandan family, who started the home in response to the rising numbers following the Genocide. Its mission is t provide these children with the opportunity to live and grow within a structured community, so that they may be permanently transformed from isolated outcasts to productive, fully-integrated members of the community who are physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually whole.
At present, Umuryango has taken in thirty boys ranging in age from 5 to 18, for whom they provide basic physical needs, education, recreation, spiritual and emotional development, and a loving family of support.
